Located in the beautiful Cumberland Mountains of Tennessee, Clarkrange Hunting Lodge offers the finest exotic big game hunting available anywhere. As the state’s oldest and largest commercial hunting operation, Clarkrange offers over 1000 acres of open hardwoods, dense laurel thickets, steep, craggy bluffs, mountain streams, and canyons, to provide you with the ultimate hunting experience. Our terrain is spectacular in it’s beauty but physically demanding to hunt. Our Hurricane Gorge, for example, provides some of the toughest terrain to traverse in Tennessee.
Our hunts begin at 7:00 CST. Wild Boar hunters may hunt from a stand or ground blind, or go on a traditional southern boar hunt utilizing dogs. This type of hunt is the most grueling but exciting as the dogs must first locate and then attempt to bay the boar. “Boar Races” can last minutes or hours depending on the temperament of the animal. Ram, goat, and deer hunters will be placed on stand or guided on spot and stalk hunt by one of our guides.
Once roaming only the continents of Europe and Asia, the Wild Boar made its way to America in several ways. Descendants of swine brought over by the Spanish Explorers still run wild in Florida and other southern states. European strain boar were introduced to the area in the early 1900s by George Moore who attempted to establish an old world hunting preserve in the Smoky Mountains. These boar escaped, however, and began to populate the lofty southern highlands of Tennessee and North Carolina. Over the years, they mated with the existing descendants of the aforementioned explorers swine to produce the famed southern razorback known today. Part European Boar, part feral hog and all together mean, the Tennessee Wild Boar of today has carved out a reputation for himself here in the Cumberland Mountains. His unpredictable temperament, and razor sharp tusks make him a trophy worthy of any hunter’s steel.
